REC Center Update #2: Revised Floorplan and More

We can’t thank you enough for your support, enthusiasm and patience as the REC Center project gets off the ground. This is a massive undertaking and one worth doing the right way. It’s important to remember that this project is just six months old but has so much momentum. While you may not be able to see any physical progress just yet, work behind the scenes is definitely ramping up!

Here are the latest updates:

● We’re pleased to welcome our construction partner, Weddle Brothers Construction, to the project. Their portfolio includes impressive work on healthcare facilities and higher education buildings throughout the state.
● The REC Center’s corporation status will be finalized in the coming weeks.
● Architect, GBBN, has provided an exciting, updated, but still in-progress floorplan. Expect them to continue to improve and refine.
● The building is in good shape and ready for construction. The footprint is very similar to the floorplan. Discussions will start soon to identify selective demolition options.
● GBBN has met with consultants (structural engineer, mechanical engineer, civic engineer, and pool) and talked through the schematics for the building. They were able to identify where electric lines and sprinklers connect. Working around existing utilities helps save costs.
Walmart has agreed to provide the building plans, which will save both time and money.
● Construction of the REC Center remains the priority, but Trane is interested in renting space at the building for two months. This would provide revenue to the project, plus cover utility expenses
● The structural engineer is putting together an RFP for the geotechnical survey, which is the first step in the construction of a site. It includes information about soil consistency and structure, groundwater level and recommendations for the technical project.
● Talks with the Henry County YMCA continue.
