CIRCLe Grantee Update: Rushville Public Library
Caregivers are encouraged to sign up through an app to track each book they read with their children. The goal is to get to 1,000 by Kindergarten. The grant also buys books that the kids get to keep.

So far, 223 children are signed up to participate. More than 400 books have been distributed and almost 19,000 books read to date.

Is there a child in your life that would benefit from this program? Download the Reader Zone app from your phone’s app store then join with the code “c1f65.” Or visit RPL for assistance to get started today! Our children our counting on us to help them succeed.

This year’s CIRCLe grantee is a program called “Child Development: At Home & In the Workforce". This is a collaboration between RCHS' Family and Consumer Science Department (FACS) and First5 Rush County’s Early Learning Coalition. The grant will purchase infant simulators and a corresponding curriculum with resources and assessment tools.

“Child Development classes will be reoriented from the singular focus on parenting to a broader focus that includes childcare as a viable business option,” Jill Carmony, FACS Department Head explained.

With approximately 680 children under the age of five in Rush County in need of childcare, there are currently only 280 openings of licensed and registered providers. The gap is huge in our community. This program could help fill it.
