Your Support in Action: Grantee BRMS Grief Share Club

2024 Recipient: $780 Dave Kehl Memorial Fund grant

Submitted by: Jessica Mastin, BRMS Student Assistance Counselor

The Benjamin Rush Middle School Grief Share student club received a mental health grant through the Rush County Community Foundation’s Dave Kehl Memorial Fund to provide trauma-informed mindfulness techniques and yoga taught by Ms. Shyla Sharp through May 2025. The RCCF’s generous support will allow grieving students to learn from Shyla, a BRMS and RCHS alumni and certified 500-hour yoga teacher specializing in trauma-informed mindfulness techniques. She shares knowledge and techniques so students feel safe and grounded in order to reduce stress, improve overall well-being, and break negative patterns going forward.

BRMS Grief Share is led by Jessica Mastin, BRMS Student Assistance Counselor in partnership with Mrs. Courtney Caldwell, Centerstone Care Specialist. Shyla is also involved in the Rushville community by teaching yoga classes sponsored by the Rushville Parks Department. Shyla’s local yoga classes are held at the Rush County Recreation Center inside the Love Community Center. BRMS is truly grateful for the support from the Dave Kehl family and for Shyla’s interest in making a positive impact in the lives of Rush County’s students!
