#ScholarUpdate – Emilee Rogers

Instead of completing my spring semester at IU, I decided to experience the world and study abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark. So far, it has been the best decision I have ever made. Every day is a new adventure as I’m beginning to learn my way around the city and travel to various parts of Denmark and Europe.

While I’m here, I am enrolled in several courses such as sustainability in food production and consumption, the meaning of style, politics and ethics of food, psychology of time, and positive organizational psychology. I am enjoying all of my courses as they incorporate “study tours” which allow for teaching outside the classroom every Wednesday. For my long study tour, I will be spending a week in Milan and Bologna, Italy.

I am currently living in Copenhagen right next to the famous painted buildings called Nyhavn. I love living in the city as it has been easy to get out and explore the city center and all the surrounding neighborhoods. I also have a visiting host family that I visit once a week and I’ve enjoyed their hospitality as they have prepared many traditional Danish dishes and showed me around the area.  Studying abroad has created an opportunity for me to get out of my comfort zone as it has opened my eyes to a new culture and a new way of life. In the short amount of time I have been here, I have created new friendships, traveled to different countries, tried new foods, and learned a lot about myself. I am thankful for this opportunity as the Lilly scholarship has allowed me to diversify my education, grow as an individual, and experience different cultures first-hand. I look forward to what the rest of the semester brings.
