Nonprofits Received $57,458 in Cycle I Community Grants Awards

We do the behind-the-scenes work, but it’s your gifts to Community Grants Funds that meet a wide range of Rush County’s ever-changing needs. These dollars impact nearly every resident of the county in one way or another through awards to fund emergency services, early learning, amenities, education, the arts, and more – not just today but forever. You can’t make a bigger difference.

The RCCF all-volunteer grants committee takes their role seriously. They read through applications and make recommendations for awards. They look for projects and programs that meet the most urgent needs and current interests of the community while ensuring the best and most responsible use of your gifts. Lengthy discussions and difficult decisions were necessary with nearly $91,700 in requests and just under $57,500 available to award.

The board of directors then makes the final approval. We are pleased to announce $57,458 in awards made during Cycle I of Community Grants.

  • SAWs (Servants at Work) received $3,500 to purchase materials for two wheelchair ramps to be built and installed by volunteers for disabled, low-income Rush County residents.
  • Rushville Regional Theatre received $3,200 to purchase portable stage lighting for venue flexibility. They will use a portion of their award for a children’s theater production.
  • Girls Inc. of Shelby County will expand their in-school programming in Rush County with a $10,000 award. “Breathe Clean: Avoid the Vaping Scene,” educates boys and girls in grades 6-8 on the dangers of vaping.
  • The Rushville American Legion Post 150 will make their main entrance accessible to all with a $15,000 grant. In addition to serving veterans and military families, they have offered their space in the event of a disaster and as a winter warming station, as needed.
  • The Rushville Township Volunteer Fire Department received $15,000 to replace their 30-year-old extrication equipment.
  • The City of Rushville Fire and Rescue received $10,757.87 to purchase new sets of extrication equipment.

None of this is possible without your support – thank you! Right now with a 2:1 match on all gifts made to any of RCCF’s 26 unrestricted Community Grants Funds, the best value in community support just got even better. Here’s how. When you make a gift of $100, it earns a match of $200. That becomes $300 – tripling your generosity and the difference you make. Once the match goal of $262,500 is met, it will generate an additional $30,000 per year for grantmaking.
