Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship

Begun in 1998, the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program (LECS) is designed to raise the level of educational attainment in Indiana and increase awareness of the potential of Indiana’s community foundations to improve the quality of life of the state’s residents.

 

The program provides scholarships to prospective college attendees demonstrating strong academic and leadership skills. The LECS program provides one Rush County student with a scholarship for full 4-year tuition, required fees, and a special allocation of up to $900 per year for required books/equipment for full-time undergraduate study leading to a baccalaureate degree at any accredited Indiana public or private college or university.

 

The Endowment has established the following general criteria for its LECS Program. Eligible participants:

  • Must be a Rush County, Indiana resident
  • Will have graduated by the end of June with a diploma from an accredited Indiana high school
  • Will pursue a full-time baccalaureate course of study
  • Will be entering college as a first semester freshman beginning in the fall
  • Will attend an accredited public or private college or university in Indiana
  • Have been accepted by that college
  • Must be free to choose which Indiana College he/she will attend
  • Will keep Rush County Community Foundation informed of academic status during college
  • Will communicate with the Rush County Community Foundation as to educational or employment status for 10 years following college graduation

The Rush County Community Foundation’s Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Nomination Committee utilizes a blind process to review all completed applications submitted by the deadline. The committee is chosen to represent a cross-section of Rush County, including its professional and geographic constituents.
