Early Learning Indiana Awards $158,000 Grant for LCC Childcare Provider

The Rush County Community Foundation (RCCF) is the recipient of a $158,000 grant from Early Learning Indiana (ELI). These funds will be utilized by Westminster Preschool, the provider selected for the 72-seat childcare center at the Love Community Center (LCC).

We are very appreciative of the grant from Early Learning Indiana helping us add to the number of high-quality preschool seats available in Rush County,” notes RCCF executive director Chris May. “We are excited to work with Westminster Preschool and these funds will only add to the professionalism and positive experience they provide to children in their formative years.”

Westminster Preschool will begin operating their play-based early childhood program in early 2025 with the opening of the new community center. Westminster is a Level 4 Paths to QUALITY™ childcare provider, indicating the highest level of quality with national accreditation. Their staff are trained in brain development, trauma-informed care, and positive guidance. They accept CCDF and On My Way Pre-K vouchers, making the program accessible to families with financial need.

The ELI grant will help cover credentialing and licensing for staff, construction costs, and materials and supplies for the program.

With a focus on “play as learning and learning as play,” they nurture each child as the unique individual they are. They describe their approach as “a Christian atmosphere that supports children’s growth and development as lifelong learners in a safe and caring environment.”

Rush County is known as a childcare desert. The high-quality care provided by Westminster will make significant progress in filling the current gap for families with infants and children up to age
five. This grant from ELI is an important investment in the community’s youngest residents and their future. The support for this program will help make a lasting difference in the lives of Rush County families and contribute to a stronger, more resilient community.
