What We’re Reading

Spring break will be here before we know it! Just in case you’re looking for a new book, we thought we’d share what we’ve been reading lately. If you do choose one or our picks, let us know what you think. We’re always looking for recommendations, what’s on your list? Send us an email, info@rushcountyfoundation.org, with your favorites.

Kristie:

I enjoy reading historical romances. I’ve read a lot of historical fiction in the last year, especially from WWII. I usually take advantage of my free Prime Reads download from Amazon, which has really helped to expand my reading genre. I just finished a suspense novel, Family Money by Chad Zunker.  I enjoyed the historical fiction novel, Before We Were Yours, and its true story sequel, Before and After, which were about the Georgia Tann Tennessee Children’s Home Society.

Alisa:

I’m in between books right now, but I recently listened to Atomic Habits by James Clear and loved it. Against my will, I’m listening to Disney’s Encanto soundtrack on repeat.

Angie:

Well, the last book I read was on vacation in September 2021. Kristie recommended Before She Disappeared by Lisa Gardner. I really didn’t think I would read it, but I read the entire book while on vacation and it was very good. We did a lot of driving so it helped pass the time!

Lisa:

I really go in reading spurts. I’m currently reading Katherine May’s The Electricity of Every Living Thing. She’s just a lovely human being. Two books that I’ve really enjoyed recently are This Is Where You Belong by Melodie Warnick, filled with great ideas for engaging with your community, and Aimee Nezhukumatathil’s World of Wonders: In Praise of Fireflies, Whale Sharks, and Other Astonishments, which is a delightful book of essays in which the author tells her own story through a connection to a certain animal species. It’s also the 2022 One State / One Story choice of Indiana Humanities.
