Arlington East Hill Cemetery Association and the Rush County Community Foundation

As a part of the new series reviewing the Rush County Community Foundation’s “designated endowment” funds, we’ll be taking a weekly look at the Rush County nonprofit organizations that have funds that support their mission and work held at RCCF.  This week’s installment focuses on the Arlington East Hill Cemetery Association.

Driving westbound from Rushville on 52, it’s difficult to arrive in Arlington without noticing the immaculate cemetery just before the town’s limits.  The Arlington East Hill Cemetery sits just east of Arlington and is maintained by the Arlington East Hill Cemetery Association.  The Arlington East Hill Cemetery Association exists to preserve the cemetery to ensure it will be a cherished place for families for generations to come.

In recent years, the Arlington East Hill Cemetery has expanded by four acres, increasing the number of burial plots available and potential for beautification of the grounds.  The sale of burial plots is a significant part of the revenue needed by the Association to preserve and maintain the cemetery.  With the addition of these new sections, the Association should be able to preserve and maintain the cemetery into the next century, however, funds are still vital for ongoing maintenance and improvements to the grounds.

The Rush County Community Foundation supports the Arlington East Hill Cemetery Association via the Arlington East Hill Cemetery Fund and the Nelson Farms Endowment Fund.  Annual funds disbursed from these funds have assisted with the ongoing maintenance needed for the cemetery, including mowing, laying stone, and the purchase of flags and trees.  In addition to the annual funding received from the Arlington East Hill Cemetery Fund and the Nelson Farms Endowment Fund, the Arlington East Hill Cemetery Association has received RCCF Community Grant funds to purchase a sign for the new entrance and mowers for the grounds.   Ultimately, with the assistance of the Rush County Community Foundation, via the Arlington East Hill Cemetery Fund, the Nelson Farms Endowment Fund and the community grants program, has helped to make expansion and additional projects possible, by offsetting the costs of routine needs and maintenance that otherwise consume their budget.
