Gerald & Anita Mohr Family Meeting Room Named at Love Community Center Thanks to a generous gift from the Mohr family, the Love Community Center will feature the “Gerald & Anita Mohr Family Meeting Room,” a dedicated space for community gatherings and organizational meetings. “We are excited to see a community center, including an indoor pool and numerous gathering spaces, coming to fruition in Rush County,” noted Gerald Mohr. “This project will positively impact so many people of all ages, and we are proud to support its operation.” The Mohrs are no strangers to Rush County or supporting the community. Gerald spent 36 years in Rush County Schools, including 29 years as principal of Rushville Elementary School, 16 years as RCHS swim coach, and retired in 2002 in the role of assistant superintendent. He spent an additional 10 years as the executive director of the Indiana Association of School Principals. Gerald is a past board member at Rush County Community Foundation (RCCF) and served as interim executive director at RCCF (2022-23). He is the current president of the Rush Memorial Hospital board and previously served as president of the Rush County Council. He is a member of the steering committee that has led to the development of the Love Community Center. A Rush County native, Anita was a 41-year elementary school teacher. She has been involved in local philanthropy through Psi Iota Xi; Changing Footprints; P.E.O.; RCCF’s women’s giving group, the CIRCLe, and as one of the founders of the RHS Class of 1964 Fund at RCCF. Additionally, Anita was a part of the creation of a fund at RCCF in 2002 that became the Gerald W. and Anita J. Mohr Community Fund, which has granted nearly $25,000 to local non-profits through RCCF’s unrestricted Community Grant cycles. “Supporting and giving back to our community has brought joy to Gerald and me,” said Anita. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to see the Love Community Center come into being, and we encourage more Rush Countians to join us in support of this facility.” The Gerald & Anita Mohr Family Meeting Room, located off the facility’s Main Street central throughway, is equipped with modern audiovisual capabilities, a large table and flexible seating, accommodating up to 20 participants. It will serve as a vital space for discussions, presentations, meetings, and civic engagement. “The Mohr family’s generosity reflects the very spirit of the Love Community Center—bringing people together to improve lives,” said Chris May, executive director of the Rush County Community Foundation. “This space will be a cornerstone of the facility, ensuring meaningful interactions and collaboration for years to come. Gerald and Anita have been incredibly giving, and we are appreciative of their gift.” The Love Community Center, presented by Jay and Christie (Kile) Love will celebrate a public Grand Opening at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 22.
