YIP Spotlight: Carter Payne

Carter Payne is a freshman studying communication with a focus in sales at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). Even though he is new to college and campus life, he has already started giving back to his new community. Carter helped with the IUPUI Regatta, and he is currently taking a course that takes him to different events for awareness. For example, Carter has been to events that bring awareness to homelessness or the Pacer’s event for a food pantry. At the end of the semester, Carter will get to plan and host his own event. How exciting!

Carter’s drive for philanthropy stems from just enjoying seeing happy people and feeling good because he had a role in making them happy. It is surprising that before Carter was in Youth in Philanthropy, he did not really know what philanthropy was. YIP showed him that the hard processes that charitable organizations have to go through to help people are made much easier when they have many volunteers. Carter’s time in YIP and other high school organizations also taught him about the fundraising side of philanthropy, which is something he really enjoys. RCCF is glad to have had Carter’s help while he was in high school, and we are excited to see how he continues to raise funds for and give back to his community!
